Three Birds Counseling & Clinical Supervision provides Fat Positive, Queer Affirming, Faith Affirming and Trauma-Informed therapy and Clinical Supervision in English and Spanish. All providers specialize in eating disorders and body image concerns, are trained in a trauma protocol (i.e., EMDR, Brainspotting, TFCBT, IFS, DBT, DCT), and operate from a Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating approach. We provide hardship evaluations in English and Spanish for loved ones of individuals facing deportation or seeking asylum and gestational carrier/donor candidate evaluations and consultation. We also help those walking the scary and painful path of infertility and pregnancy loss, and the exhausting experience of anxiety and trauma, both of which often overlap body and food concerns.
I approach treatment from a HAES-friendly cognitive-behavioral perspective.
I utilize a strengths-based, eating disorder and Health at Every Size informed approach to therapy and parent coaching. I am certified to lead the Confident Body Confident Child program, which is evidence-based to help parents guide their child in developing a healthy relationship with food without negatively affecting their child’s body image. I am also a certified trainer and leader of The Body Project, which helps teenage girls challenge the “appearance ideal” by developing cognitive dissonance between societal ideals of beauty and the girl’s own values. I use these trainings and my experience working in the eating disorder field to help support parents who are trying to raise their children to be body confident and have a healthy, flexible relationship to food.
I believe parents can be the strongest ally in a child’s recovery from an eating disorder and I provide therapeutic services to the entire family system.
As a therapist treating Eating Disorders for over a decade at multiple levels of care, I have seen the challenges of feeding a child, self, or loved one in a nutritious yet flexible manner. Body acceptance and positive home environment are keys to success but I also treat the clinical components of Eating Disorders and mood disorders that trigger misuse of food. I am an advocate for body acceptance, intuitive eating, and viewing food as self-care. I utilize multiple treatment components including traditional CBT/DBT but more eclectic art therapy, book studies, and games to help teenage clients break free from maladaptive eating patterns.
I work with women who struggle with disordered eating and body image. I subscribe to HAES and strongly support intuitive eating as part of a framework for developing a healthy relationship with food and body. This work involves self-compassion, developing an internal awareness of behaviors, thoughts and emotions, through mindfulness, and unlearning food rules (among other things). I want to help you develop an overall sense of self awareness and strength to believe in yourself and assert your needs.
I am certified in Family-Based Treatment fo children and adolescents with eating disorders. I also employ CBT-E (cognitive behavioral therapy) for older adolescents and adults with eating disorders or disordered eating. I also offer body-positive coaching for teens and adults, as well as body-positive parenting coaching (through The Full Bloom Project).
I utilize a collaborative relationship with my clients to examine and change the factors that contribute to their disordered relationship with food an their bodies.
