I counsel parents to follow a Trust Model of feeding with their kids, also known as Ellyn Satter’s Division of responsibility. I work with parents to separate their concerns about body size from their feeding approach, so that they can provide a supportive, structured feeding environment that is not based on trying to manipulate body size. My approach is based on supporting unique individual children to develop eating competence at their own pace. If parents report growth or weight concerns, I evaluate growth data when possible and coach parents to support the natural process of growth and affirm the diversity of bodies.
When working with parents, I start by exploring the parent’s relationship to food and discuss why a non-diet approach is essential to health and wellbeing. We’ll discuss how biases about bodies and rigid rules around food are influential in a child’s health and eating habits. We’ll discuss how to instead utilize the DOR or determine what might be best for that parent and their family. We’ll discuss intuitive eating and feeding strategies – I’d likely recommend a book like Born to Eat.
If a parent is concerned about their child’s weight, I first listen to their concerns and ask a lot of questions — both about the child and the home environment. We discuss ways that the parent can support and help their child grow up in their body free from shame and guilt. I emphasize how important it is to continue to allow children to be the intuitive eaters they were born as– without any restriction on portion size, type of food, etc.
I have 20 years of working in the field of Eating Disorders. Using a non-diet HAES philosophy, I help individuals heal their relationship with food and their body. I am passionate about meeting a person where they are in the process of learning and making a change. Outside of my private practice, I work with adolescents with eating disorders and their families. My approach to supporting parents is through a combination of education, empathy, and non-judgment.
I would approach a family with individualized goal setting and also with a weight-inclusive HAES approach to nutrition. I would make sure I am getting the full picture of each families situation, and provide recommendations that are appropriate, realistic, and achievable with each family.
Lindsay’s formal education defines her as a Registered Dietitian, but she prefers to identify as a health activist. Lindsay is committed to undoing the dehumanizing and fatphobic legacy of diet culture and traditional dietetics. She strives to work in partnership with her clients to help clarify an authentic and intuitive sense of their own ideas of health, nourishment, and recovery. Areas of specialization include disordered eating across age and gender identities, nutritional healing following gastric surgeries, weight-neutral interventions for diabetes and PCOS, food aversions, food-related trauma, and exposure therapy. Lindsay’s therapeutic style is marked by a suspicion for judgement and generalizations, and a respect for the power of curiosity, empathy, and humor to bring out the healthiest parts of ourselves.
My approach is to assume that the parent is the expert on their child. My role is to be an outside perspective on what is working and not working and to provide ideas to make changes that can help parent and child get to the outcome they desire.
When working with parents, I utilize a mixture of Ellyn Satter’s DOR and Intuitive eating. I address the parents’ own relationship with food/body with these models and support them in building more DOR oriented systems/structures into their family dynamics around food.
I am a dietitian practicing from a Health at Every Size working with people of all ages to help them find ways to honor and respect their bodies through food, movement, and self-care. I use intuitive eating as a guidepost in my practice and strongly believe that with practice, we adults and children can trust their bodies to guide them towards choices that feel good physically and mentally. I have experience supporting parents as their kids struggle with feeding disorders or other concerns related to weight/body and offering tips to manage this at home.

I work with children, adults, and families in eating disorder recovery and helping everyone find food freedom. I use a Family Based Therapy approach when appropriate to bring families into the recovery process. I am also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and use an intuitive eating approach. I work within the framework of the Division of Responsibility when working with children and families to help empower both parents and children.

My work differs depending on needs and the assessment. I typically implement structure, help with language, coach about prevention for eating disorders, etc.
We start by unpacking the feelings and emotions attached to their child’s relationship with food and body. We then start to explore health, explaining that restricting calories, overexercising, limiting certain foods, labeling foods as good vs. bad can do more harm and actually lead to poor health (mental and physical) longterm. We support our clients in finding joy in movement, practicing gentle nutrition without restrictions and shifting the focus away from the scale and perceived ideas of what their bodies are “supposed” to look like based on toxic diet culture messaging and maybe even mixed messages from their child’s physician.
I help parents overcome the food fight at mealtimes with their child(ren) through a compassionate, understanding, and customized approach. We’ll explore topics such as division of responsibility, intuitive eating, picky eating, meal planning for a family, and how to promote a healthy body image and relationship to food throughout a child’s lifetime.
All of my sessions are virtual and an hour. I coach clients in an intuitive eating and HAES approach. I do not give diets to clients (adults) and I definitely do not give diets to children. I believe that children are born with the ability to intuitively eat and need support with their families in order to regain that. The parents also need to have a sensitivity toward their children as well.
I work with families to help encourage body confidence and eating competency with their children, and I encourage the parents to experiment with giving their child space to be their own body experts instead of stepping in and being the expert over them. This can require a lot of support to help parents trust the process and trust that their child will listen to their body and make expert decisions for themselves within the gentle framework established by working within the sDOR model.
