When working with parents, I start by exploring the parent's relationship to food and discuss why a non-diet approach is essential to health and wellbeing. We'll discuss how biases about bodies and rigid rules around food are influential in a child's health and eating habits. We'll discuss how to instead utilize the DOR or determine what might be best for that parent and their family. We'll discuss intuitive eating and feeding strategies - I'd likely recommend a book like Born to Eat.
I utilize a weight-neutral, HAES®, non-diet approach to nutrition. I believe that all foods can fit in a healthy diet that takes into account mental and physical health. I primarily specialize in nutrition therapy for eating disorders and disordered eating, and more specifically, I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ and/or neurodivergent clients. I enjoy partnering with parents (or other caregivers) to support children with eating/body issues through a mix of nutrition education, unlearning diet culture, collaborative meal/snack planning, coaching, goal setting, skills-teaching, and more.
